Vultus II: The Essence of Change
“Vultus II” is an evocative piece from an experimental series that redefines the boundaries of traditional painting. Inspired by the culinary art of deconstructing classic dishes into new forms, this series reimagines painting through a unique process.
The creation begins with a traditional painting or drawing on canvas, which is then photographed. This photograph is printed on paper and transferred with gesso to a final canvas, transforming the original artwork into a distinctive transfer. The final touch of acrylic paint is the only real painting on the canvas.
This series explores the themes of evolution and transformation. Each portrait captures the essence of a life, a story, and the perpetual journey of change. The fragmented appearance of the portraits highlights our ever-evolving identities.
“Vultus II” embodies these concepts, presenting a portrait that is both fragmented and whole, emphasizing the fluid and dynamic nature of human existence.
Artist Statement
This is an experimental series where I seek to deconstruct painting in the same way that a chef does in modern cuisine, transforming the ingredients of a traditional dish into other textures, shapes and temperatures without breaking the flavors and harmonies of the ingredients. I achieve this deconstruction of art by combining the two main concepts of my work, painting and image transfer through photography. What I do first is a classic realistic painting on canvas and photograph it. Then I transfer that photograph printed on paper with gesso to another canvas, which is the final canvas.
My recent work speaks of the diversity of masks we wear, of how to be oneself while being many different people at the same time, of what we think we are but which varies constantly, of what we show we are versus what we often carry inside. This is represented in this work in which all the elements have been modified in its form, because it is not really the painting or the transfer that is seen, but a concealment of what it really is, a classic oil painting that is not really painted on the canvas.
Before this process I add a touch of color with acrylic paint being really the only painting that is on the canvas.
A painting decorates a room, but a unique artwork makes it stand out from the rest
The art completely transforms a room making it unique, personal and different from the rest and makes your home, office or business stand out transmitting an image of success, thus impressing your guests or customers. The neophotorealism, Raul’s new technique, mixes the classic figurative style that breaks with the traditional. Pure white backgrounds, deep blacks and pastel tones where the skin tones contrast with the grays of the transferred image creating a unique painting in the world, the perfect balance for a timeless decoration that will transform any room into a modern, elegant, sophisticated and above all unique place.
