Artist Statement
This work is inspired by the 15-M Movement, also known as the movement of the outraged. It was a citizens’ movement in Spain formed as a result of the protest of May 15, 2011, called by various groups with the intention of promoting a more participatory democracy away from bipartisanship and the dominance of banks and corporations. Through this I found a way to express people’s indignation, feelings and emotions. I do this with image transfers on canvas. I make a photograph that I print on paper, then I transfer that paper onto the canvas with gesso. When it is dry I remove all the paper and the result is the transferred image with textures and reliefs. Then I paint the whole canvas with color, which makes the figure blend with the background and I highlight the textures with touches of color.
