The Cons of Selling on Saatchi Art
Even though I’m quite happy with Saatchi gallery there are cons, these are some of them.
1, Competition with other Artists
Saatchiart has a large pool of talented artists and it can be difficult to stand out and get your work noticed by potential buyers.
2. Commission Fees
Another challenge of selling on Saatchi Art is the commission fees that are taken from each sale. While these fees are a common occurrence for online art marketplaces, it can eat into your profit margins. At this point I have to say that Saatchi Art fee is lower than most of the other online art galleries, it used to be 35% but they raised up to 40% this 2023
3. Shipping and Handling Costs
Selling artwork online means that you have to account for shipping and handling costs. This can be a challenge when it comes to pricing your work, and can impact your profits. Anyway while you set the price of your work you´ll see how much of that price goes to shipping costs so you can adjust the price if needed.
4. Importance of Promoting Your Work Effectively
Lastly, it’s important to note that selling on Saatchi Art requires a lot of effort and self-promotion. If you want to be successful on the platform, you need to put in the time and effort to effectively promote your work and get it in front of potential buyers.

The amount that artists make on Saatchi Art Gallery can vary greatly depending on several factors, including the quality and style of their works, the demand for their art, and their market. I agree with a lot of what you’ve said. Unfortunately, I found this article as the only place that states that Saatchi’s commission went up to 40% this year. I don’t recall being notified of this at all, so the lack of communication bothers me.
I’ve been fine with their 35% commission, however, I’m not a fan of how they market that it’s better than what we’d get with most galleries. I say this because they always have some kind of sale. Because my artworks are all $1000+, a sale always applies to my art. Every time someone has bought an art from my Saatchi profile, a 15% discount has been applied. With the 35% commission that means I really only got 55% of the sale. Now that it’s 40% commission, those sales make it so that I only get 51% of the sale, which isn’t reputable for priding themselves in getting us more money in our pockets than a typical gallery.
So yes, Saatchi is great, but I definitely have my frustrations with them.
I loved the article, thank you for so much useful information. I have a question, I hope you could answer: can I sell the same artwork (original and art prints) on Saatchi Art and other websites? In other words, do they operate on a non-exclusive basis? Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Thank you so much for your kind words about the article, and I’m delighted to hear that you found the information useful.
Yes, one of the great aspects of platforms like Saatchi Art is that they typically operate on a non-exclusive basis,in fact, many artists find it beneficial to list their artworks on various platforms to maximize their audience and potential sales. When selling on different platforms, I do that myself. Just make sure to to maintain consistent pricing across all of them. This approach helps build trust with customers and avoids any confusion or discrepancies in pricing.
